Back at King’s Arms – kids and words of knowledge!

31 08 2008

It was great to be back at KA this morning – we’ve so missed the worship and the people and the sense of faith and expectancy. I spoke on becoming great leaders with the kids in. It’s always a challenge to span 5 to 75 and do a talk that has something for everyone. One fun thing at the end was that I had been talking about words of knowledge and asked 6 of the kids to volunteer. Wendy and PK took them outside for a few minutes to ask God for words of knowledge. One lad had a word about someone with sadness – one girl had a word about a housewife who was not a christian but had immense sadness – and Kiah had a word about someone with one foot bigger than the other (plus another one about pain in the right leg). We were all amazed when the housewife responded, burst into tears and gave her life to Christ (this was after the meeting)! Also there was a teenager there who had one foot larger than the other and it caused her a great deal of upset – a group prayed for her. And finally there was at least one person healed of a right leg injury.

It’s so humbling and exhilarating to serve such an extraordinary God who loves to speak through little kids to bring His kingdom!

Great to be back! Church in the Pub tonight and we’re looking for more!

Anointing for dogs?

26 08 2008

Was in the park praying today when a lady came up to me. Are you ok? she asked – I replied that I was just praying. Oh well – could you pray for my dog – he’s just had an op to remove a tumour and it’s malignant. Sure I replied – bring him here. So there in Bedford park I laid hand on Corky (the dogs name!) and commanded cancer to get out of his body – and for a long healthy life! She was visibly touched and crossed herself as I finished praying. Are you a Catholic I asked. I am she replied – can’t you see my “guilt glands” are enlarged. We laughed and I told her that in our smallgroup one night we had by chance discovered that 4 of our group were once catholic also. They told us how they had gained a deep awe of God from the catholics but also highly developed sense of guilt – so much so that they always felt guilty. We had prayed for them and God had touched them and shown them that Jesus came to bring forgiveness and life – sure we needed to repent but then it was dealt with! She said – do you have a card? I didn’t do she asked if she could give me her mobile so I could text her details of the King’s Arms. “We were meant to meet today she said – this has really meant something to me.”

Maybe this is what Jesus meant when he said in Mark 16:15 – “preach the gospel to all creation” The kingdom of God is even good news for the likes of Corky (and of course his owner!!)

It’s good to be back in Bedford – more Jesus!!!

Shuttleworth 2008

25 08 2008

Camping in style at shuttleworth We’ve had a great time camping as a church at Shuttleworth. I think we had the best pitch on the site – right next to the house with a fantastic view every morning to wake up to. Worship was awesome and PJ Smythe spoke brilliantly throughout the weekend (apparently the talks will be available here in due course)

I also had the chance on Sunday night to share about the 7 teenagers healed in Bedford last week. I hadn’t asked to share it but had felt God speak to me that the timing of that outbreak of miracles was significant – the day before Shuttleworth. I know that it happened right then because it’s not about me or Tabo but Jesus wanting to inspire His church at what he can do. I’m not expecting that every time we go out that we’ll have similar results – but what I do know is that now that I’ve seen what’s possible the ceiling just got lifted! I pray that we have stories from across the region of new adventures!

I also spoke Saturday night at the youth event, tagging on to the end of Wendy speaking on healing. I spoke on deliverance which I was a bit nervous about given that there were 12 year olds in the room. However, I felt a grace to do it and Mel Crane who was overseeing the event reminded me that if we don’t teach them from the Bible they they will get their theology of the supernatural from Buffy the Vampire slayer or Harry Potter. Good point Mel – it gave me the confidence to go at it hard and we saw so many kids set free, encountering Jesus and having the nasty stuff broken off. Thank you Jesus

I felt a new liberty also in words of knowledge this weekend. I’ve been praying for them more and more because I’m convinced that they are critical for our outreach – they open up unbelievers almost as much as healing (as Paul leads us to expect in 1 Cor 14:25). Anyway had some really specific ones in a couple of meetings and had people coming up to me all weekend reporting the freedom that came. One word about someone who had been strangled resulted in 5 people responding and massive freedom ensued! It’s spurred me on to go back to KA and urge them to keep pressing in for this key gift. What would happen if we can get an army of believers firing off accurate words of knowledge in the workplaces of Bedford!

7 teenagers healed on the streets of Bedford!!

21 08 2008

Ok this is a long post but stay with me it’s worth the read I promise!

Many of you will know that we’ve just started doing ‘extreme treasure hunts’ at KA. It’s where a group or a couple of people get together and pray and ask God for a specific location, name, condition, description of a person and go out and try to find them and pray for them.

Tabo Huntley and I have done a few of these together and bombed out badly. We even had one time where it was 3 christians that we located all with injuries but none of them would let us pray.

Anyhow, today we went out again. Everything seemed normal! I believed we were directed to a a red postbox and location outside the library. I also had girl with blonde hair, deafness and gold chain. Tabo had spine injury, Harpur centre, basketball (?), yellow coat and baseball cap!!

We walked down to the library area and saw a red postbox (I didn’t even know there was one in the town centre). We then saw a group of 15 teenagers and amoungst them a teen with a yellow jacket wearing a baseball cap. I was dreading going over to this group knowing we were certainly going to get ridiculed but Tabo insisted that it was a good idea, so we did. We approached the teen (around 14 years old I guess) and said ‘hey we’re on this treasure hunt and we have someone matching your description. Do you have a spine injury? Are you deaf at all?’ The guy denied it and was obviously embarrassed. We told them that we were Christians and one other guy began to make a bit of fun and said he was a pagan. He looked at our list and then said. Hey I’ve got a spine injury – I have 3 vertebrae fused in my coccyx. I had to stop playing basketball. We convinced him to let us pray. So with everyone gathered around we prayed. And he was totally healed! He began swearing and did the splits and touched his toes and laid on the floor stretching his back the wrong way. He’s telling everyone he just got healed and it clearly had an impact on the group!

We then got to pray for another girl and she was healed (I can’t remember of what now – seriously it was all happening so fast!) Then a guy Rob came up to Tabo and asked him to pray with him. Tabo grabbed his hand and the guy just began weeping and weeping ‘oh my gosh it’s God’ he kept saying. This guy was just blown away by the presence of God. He said to me and others ‘this is what Christianity should be like’. He became our biggest advocate, drawing more and more over and going around one by one telling his story. I gave him the gospel but he wasn’t quite ready to give his life to Christ – he was so blown away he didn’t know what to do with himself!

Then we prayed for a girl called who had some nasty stuff happen when she was younger. She had said earlier that she was a pagan but by the end of the prayer time she was weeping and she was the one who then went out and brought other friends over who were on the other side of the square telling them ‘I just met with God’

Then we had a girl come up to us with a with fractured arm. I asked her why it wasn’t in a cast and she said she had a sling but wasn’t wearing it (not cool) and was going in for the cast on Monday. She showed us very limited movement. By this time we had a crowd of 20 or so teenagers gathered around watching this one – they all seemed to know about her. We prayed and she was totally healed – full mobility and no pain. At this point they were all swearing and some were crying. They kept asking us how we were doing it and we kept on talking about Jesus.

At this point I shouted out ‘if anyone wants to get healed come here right now – God is on the move’. Then we were introduced to a deaf blonde girl with a gold chain. Jesus – I was sure she was going to get healed but sadly she didn’t right then.

We then had a guy come up with 3 torn ligaments in his shoulder – he was totally healed and then a girl with severe astigmatism was healed and also her short sightedness vastly improved. She could read a sign clearly across the square withour glasses – a feat she claimed was impossible before. Then a guy with arthritis in his fingers (generational – both parents had it) and I prayed for him and all the pain left. Meanwhile Tabo had a queue of people that he was prophesying over and several met God powerfully for emotional healing.

At this point I gathered them all together and gave them the gospel. We kept on telling them that Jesus was after them and proving to them that he was alive and interested in their lives.

Finally we prayed for a girl with repeated migraines – she was having one as we prayed and it left instantly. Then a girl with a knee injury which was improved.

The whole thing took about two hours. It was the most incredible thing I have ever witnessed. Many of the teens said they now had to believe in God and are going to come to church. We also discovered two backsliden Christians who were impacted. One girl took my number as she wants me to come and pray for her father who has two months to live in Addenbrooks hospital.

This evening I called one of our prophetic guys who had texted me with a word right in the middle of the afternoon. He said that at lunch time the presence of God hit him so strongly he was compelled to take the afternoon off work and pray (unplanned). He went to the park and prayed. I asked him what time – 3pm to 5pm. The exact two hours that we were out on the streets.

We serve a mighty God who is moving in extraordinary ways that are going to become ordinary!!

Hell

21 08 2008

I’ve been thinking a lot about hell recently. Something about my life doesn’t reflect my belief in hell and something needs to change. I found this message from Lifechurch was profound!

Born in the usa

20 08 2008

IMG_0060.JPGWell I’m finally back from the USA – having left Caroline and the kids there! It’s not a permanent thing – they are coming back eventually after some more quality time with Caroline’s parents. It was a whirlwind trip visiting 3 major cities in 18 days and seeing Caroline’s younger brother Daniel married to his lovely new bride Molly! We lived the American dream and ate ourselves silly (they had to roll me onto the aircraft) – I even managed to discover a new favourite icecream parlour – Cold Stone. Where they mix any flavour of icecream with seemingly any topping on the planet for a taste bud extravaganza. You just can’t beat cheesecake and fresh raspberry icecream for breakfast. We also found a petrol station that sells over 500 varieties of fizzy pop (see photo). Just breathing the atmosphere of caffeine and sugar is enough to fail an Olympic drugs test. We also got to see Euan and Sarah in St Louis – they send their love to everyone that knows them.

Of course now I’m back with major jet-lag hence the blog post at 5am and looking forward to getting back into life here in the UK. One highlight from the trip was visiting lifechurch.tv the 5th fastest growing church in the US. It was started in 1996 with 40 people and – get this – now has 18,000 attendees across 6 sites. That’s 18 THOUSAND!! It’s impressive I have to say – particularly in that a lot of the growth is through salvation (although of course there is much transfer growth also). That’s unusual for the US – and it is an unusual church. The lead guy Craig Groeschell preaches live in 6 meetings (2 Saturday night, 4 on Sunday) and this is broadcast via satellite to the other 5 campuses. It was an interesting concept and I learned a few things! Notably, the way Craig preaches to believers but has a strong section for unbelievers at the end where he calls for salvation. Each person who responds to Christ is given a new believers pack with a great bible, DVD on getting baptised and free worship CD for the car with an invite to a followup new believers course. The downside to the whole thing for me was the worship was so ‘techno’ with lasers, huge tv screens and SOO loud that I found it hard to engage. But overall a great experience

Nuff for now…
