No masks

29 03 2008

Someone told me some stuff they had done the other day that was pretty grim. It’s funny but having been a pastor for nearly 6 years now nothing really surprises me any more. But it did make me appreciate being part of the Kings Arms. There are not many places you can tell your junk safe in the knowledge that you will be accepted whatever. I’m currently experiencing the loss of another friend who’s gone church planting. Its a reminder that each time I have to rebuild with new friends and make a choice to be open and vulnerable once again. The masks come back on pretty quick if were not careful – it takes work to maintain this open culture that we have. But here’s to masks off – its the only way to live in the light and really have genuine community!

God does not change

24 03 2008

Reading Andrew Wilsons ‘Incomparable’ – a wonderful study on God. This AW Tozer quote stood out to me from the chapter that God is ‘unchangeable’

“What peace it brings to the Christian’s heart to realize that our Heavenly Father never differs from Himself. In coming to Him at any time we need not wonder if we shall find Him in a receptive mood. He is always receptive to misery and need as well as to love and faith. He does not keep office hours or set aside periods where He will see no-one. Neither does He change His mind about anything. Today, this moment, He feels towards His creatures, toward babies, toward the sick, the fallen, the sinful exactly as He did when He sent His only begotten Son into the world to die for mankind.

Psalm 102 ‘you are the same’

Mal 3:6 ‘I the Lord do not change therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed’

God is love

Re-reading FF Bosworth’s christ the healer. It really is an outstanding book. On sentence stands out ‘it is not faith in Gods power that secures his blessings but faith in his love, in his compassion. No where does the bible say God is power but it does say God is love. Satan allows us to magnify God’s power because he knows that it is not sufficient basis for faith; but he knows that His willingness and compassion is.

Here we are again

This is my second venture into the land of blogging. There may not even be anyone reading this – but as I’m just using extracts from my journal I don’t really mind. And anyhow, how will I ever know! If you are – enjoy!
